1. Demonstrated ability of students to critically evaluate and integrate a relevant body of psychological literature.

First Means of Assessment for Outcome Identified Above:
1a. Means of Program Assessment & Criteria for Success:
A faculty team will evaluate student literature reviews of 6 to 8 peer reviewed academic journal articles from the required course, PSYC 5320 using a six-category rubric.  Ratings in all categories will average 80% and the average rating on none of the areas will be less than 70%.

1a. Summary of Assessment Data Collected:
The course, PSYC 5320, from which the faculty team collects the data for this assessment, was not scheduled for Fall 2003.

1a. Use of Results to Improve Instructional Program:
Because there were no data to collect, the faculty could not make recommendations for changes at this time.

First Means of Assessment for Outcome Identified Above:
2a. Means of Program Assessment & Criteria for Success:
An objective, multiple-choice measure of counseling and psychotherapy theories will be administered to all MACP students as part of the Comprehensive exam. 80% of the students will score at or above the 80% and no student will score below 70%.

2a. Summary of Assessment Data Collected:
Just one student took the exam during the assessment period. She received a 93%. Because comprehensive examinations in Psychology are offered principally in the Spring semester, the results (N=1) for Fall are very small.

2a. Use of Results to Improve Instructional Program:
Because only one student took the objective examination during Fall 2003, there were no data to report. The faculty could not, therefore, make recommendations at this time.

3.   Demonstration of basic counseling and professional competencies in direct service to clients.

First Means of Assessment for Outcome Identified Above:
3a. Means of Program Assessment & Criteria for Success:
During the internship all students will submit a videotaped interview and consent form from an actual client. A faculty team will utilize the Working Alliance Inventory, external raters form, to evaluate the interview.  Ratings will average at least 80% positive on the Goals, Tasks and Bond subscales.

3a. Summary of Assessment Data Collected:
None collected during this assessment period. Even though internship was offered in the fall, only one student was enrolled for the program (N=1).

3a. Use of Results to Improve Instructional Program:
Because data were very small, the faculty could not make recommendations for changes at this time.

Second Means of Assessment for Outcome Identified Above:
3b. Means of Program Assessment & Criteria for Success:
During the internship all students will take a self-report measure of multi-cultural competence.  A standard measure available in the literature will be used.  Student responses will be comparable to those of the norms for the instrument.

3b. Summary of Assessment Data Collected:
None collected during this assessment period. Even though internship was offered in the fall, only one student was enrolled for the program (N=1).

3b. Use of Results to Improve Instructional Program:
Because there were no data to collect, the faculty could not make recommendations for changes at this time.

Third Means of Assessment for Outcome Identified Above:
3c. Means of Program Assessment & Criteria for Success:
During the internship semester site supervisors will complete a locally developed measure, the Site Supervisor’s Rating Form. This measure will be used to evaluate professional and counseling competencies. The supervisor’s ratings will average 80% in all competencies and none of the individual competencies will be less than 70%.

3c. Summary of Assessment Data Collected:
Only one student took the internship program during this assessment period.  However in prior assessment periods, ratings were very high for each competency.  Therefore, surveys were sent to all site supervisors to seek suggestions about the form and student evaluations in September of 2003.

3c. Use of Results to Improve Instructional Program:
Three surveys were returned of 9 mailed.  These supervisors had supervised 8 MACP students over the history of the program.  Survey inquired into strengths and weaknesses of program and students & sought recommendations and rated satisfaction from 0(none) to 5 (total)
1.Weaknesses included a lack of professionalism and the need to integrate ethics more fully into coursework. Students cited hesitancy in making mistakes, as well as a reluctance to compile reports for Child Protective Services.
2.Strengths Listed:  Collaboration, Highly motivated faculty and students, Enthusiasm of students and willingness to help, Application of theory in practice
3. Recommendations:  Training on supervision would be helpful (2 respondents), More communication with site supervisor by faculty teaching course, Possibility of abroad internships
Overall satisfaction with MACP program: 5 (2 respondents) 4 (1 respondent)
Action Taken to date:
a. Greater emphasis on ethical decision making in Ethics Course, including more role-plays.
b. Discussion of the benefits of making a CPS referral for the family as well as the child in Ethics course added
c. Director has visited two sites in last semester
d. Community training event on supervision set for March 2004.
