Administrative or Educational Support Unit Mission Statement:
The mission of the Computer and Telecommunications Services (CTS) department is to provide excellence in computer satisfaction, keep the University’s telecommunications technology current, and disseminate the exchange of information to faculty, staff and students about campus computer and telecommunications activities.

Intended Administrative Objectives:

1. CTS will enhance academic classroom and student computing equipment.

2. CTS will promote the student/alumni E-mail for Life Project.

3. The campus user community will indicate a level of satisfaction with the overall services provided by the Computer and Telecommunications Services department.

1. CTS will enhance academic classroom and student computing equipment.

First Means of Assessment for Objective Identified Above:
1a. Means of Unit Assessment & Criteria for Success:
Student computing equipment will be enhanced by upgrading computers and printers and removing outdated equipment.  Inventory reports will provide documentation indicating that 80% of the computer equipment in the computer labs is less than three years old.

1a. Summary of Assessment Data Collected:
As of July 14, 2004, CTS inventory records indicate there are a total of 177 computers installed in the computer laboratories. There are 29 computers that are more than 3 years old. This translates to 93.7% that are less than 3 years old.

1a. Use of Results to Improve Unit Services:
CTS continually keeps the laboratory computer equipment and software as up to date as resources allow.

2. CTS will promote the student/alumni E-mail for Life Project.

First Means of Assessment for Objective Identified Above:
2a. Means of Unit Assessment & Criteria for Success:
CTS will promote the student/alumni E-mail for Life Project by increasing the current number of users enrolled to 2,500 by August 2004. A monthly report will be extracted from the database to obtain the actual number of student/alumni enrolled in the E-mail for Life Project.  The final report will be obtained at the beginning of Fall 2004.

2a. Summary of Assessment Data Collected:
As of July 20, 2004, CTS exceeded the number of students enrolled in E-Mail for Life Project. The current number is 2,680 students and alumni, exceeding the goal set for August 2004.

2a. Use of Results to Improve Unit Services:
CTS continues to offer E-Mail for Life, and competes with other popular free e-mail services to make this system the standard e-mail service among our students.

3. The campus user community will indicate satisfaction with the overall services provided by the Computer and Telecommunications Services department.

First Means of Assessment for Objective Identified Above:
3a. Means of Unit Assessment & Criteria for Success:
The campus user community will indicate a 90% level of satisfaction with “the overall services provided by the Computer and Telecommunications Services department.”  We will use the Finance and Administration Division 2004 Service Quality Survey to obtain the data.

3a. Summary of Assessment Data Collected:
Based on the survey results, CTS had an 86% satisfaction rate — this is 4% less than what was anticipated.

3a. Use of Results to Improve Unit Services:
CTS’ continued improvement efforts include: overall campus communications by continuing  to inform the members of its community via public relations, newsletters, fliers, and brochures; offer specialized software trainings for staff; and service equipment in a timely manner.
