Texas A&M International University, a Member of the Texas A&M
University System, is committed to the preparation of students for leadership
roles in their chosen profession and in an increasingly complex, culturally
diverse state, national, and global society… Through instruction, faculty
and student research, and public service, Texas A&M International
University is a strategic point of delivery for well-defined programs
and services that improve the quality of life for citizens of the border
region, the State of Texas, and national and international communities.
Administrative or Educational Support Unit Mission Statement:
TRiO’s Student Support Services offers support services to program
participants who are economically-disadvantaged, first generation college
students and students with disabilities. Program participants receive
tutoring and supplemental instruction in academic areas, career, personal
and academic counseling, and the opportunity to attend cultural activities
outside the University.
Intended Administrative Objectives:
1. TRIO program participants will persist toward completion of
an academic program (retention).
2. TRIO program participants will be in good academic standing
meaning that they will have a minimum GPA of 2.0 at the institution.

Intended Administrative or Educational Support Objective:
1. Program participants will persist toward completion of an
academic program (retention).
First Means of Assessment for Objective Identified Above:
1a. Means of Unit Assessment & Criteria for Success:
The Annual FOCUS Report will indicate that no less than 80% of 2003-2004
program participants will be enrolled at the university.
Retention for Fall 2001-2002 was 72%.
Retention for Fall 2002-2003 was 78.42%.
1a. Summary of Assessment Data Collected:
The retention rate for Fall 2003-2004 was 77.78%, slightly below the
goal.
1a. Use of Results to Improve Unit Services:
A follow-up survey of the returning students is being conducted.
Information gathered from the survey will be used to improve the services.

2. Program participants will be in good academic standing which means
that they will have a minimum GPA of 2.0 at the institution.

2a. Means of Unit Assessment & Criteria for Success:
TheAnnual FOCUS Report will indicate that at least 98% of TRiO students
will be in good academic standing.
82% of students will be in Good Academic Standing for Fall 2001-2002.
96.93% of students will be in Good Academic Standing for Fall 2002-2003.
2a. Summary of Assessment Data Collected:
Results indicate that 94.8% of the students were in good standing,
slightly under the target.
2a. Use of Results to Improve Unit Services:
Students will be monitored to ensure their use of tutoring services.
