Administrative or Educational Support Unit Mission Statement:
The Texas A&M International University Police Department’s mission is to provide the university community with a safe and secure learning and working environment by providing the highest quality police services which include prompt response, availability of officers and informational and instructive services.

Intended Administrative Objectives:

1. To disseminate public safety information to the university community.

2. To instruct and train university building emergency coordinators on emergency evacuation procedures to ensure the safety of the university community in an emergency. 

3. To make police officers available to the university community by increasing their presence on campus.

Intended Administrative or Educational Support Objective:

1. To disseminate public safety information to the university community.

First Means of Assessment for Objective Identified Above:
1a. Means of Unit Assessment & Criteria for Success:
On the Finance and Administration Division 2004 Service Quality Survey distributed annually, 80% of respondents (faculty and staff) will rate communications by police department regarding its services and procedures as “good”, “very good” or “excellent.”

1a. Summary of Assessment Data Collected:
Respondents rated the communication by the Police Department regarding its services and procedures at 66% satisfaction.

1a. Use of Results to Improve Unit Services:
An officer meeting was conducted on April 26, 2004 to discuss the results of the survey and to obtain employee feedback on possible communication solutions.   Monthly informational booth setups have been established throughout different locations around campus to disseminate information regarding departmental services and personal awareness information.

Intended Administrative or Educational Support Objective:

2.   To instruct and train university building emergency coordinators on emergency evacuation procedures to ensure the safety of the university community in an emergency.

First Means of Assessment for Objective Identified Above:
2a. Means of Unit Assessment & Criteria for Success:
Conduct tabletop exercises and conduct evacuation drills to ensure a safe and timely evacuation of building occupants in cases of emergency. On the Finance and Administration Division 2004 Service Quality Survey distributed annually, 80% of the respondents (faculty and staff) will rate the level of safety on campus as “good”, “very good” or “excellent.”  

2a. Summary of Assessment Data Collected:
Respondents rated the levels of campus safety at 84% satisfaction.  Additionally, building emergency coordinators (BEC’s) rated the safety-training course with a high rating.

2a. Use of Results to Improve Unit Services:
25 out of the present 30 building emergency coordinators (BEC’s) have received training on building emergency evacuations to include distribution of assembly evacuation maps to the university community. BEC’s continue to receive emergency training and simulation exercises throughout the year.

3. To make police officers available to the university community by increasing their presence on campus.

First Means of Assessment for Objective Identified Above:
3a. Means of Unit Assessment & Criteria for Success:
The Finance and Administration Division 2004 Service Quality Survey is distributed annually.  32% of respondents to last year’s survey were critical of the accessibility and visibility of the police officers to the University community.  Reduce the number of respondents that are critical of police officer presence on campus by 10% by instituting programs that provide for officer interaction with the university community.

3a. Summary of Assessment Data Collected:
Based on the survey results,26% of respondents to this year’s survey were critical to “theaccessibility and visibility of the police officers to the University community.”  Overall, 73% of respondents rated “the accessibility and visibility of the police officers to the University community” as satisfactory.

3a. Use of Results to Improve Unit Services:
The department has taken various actions in improving the overall “accessibility and visibility of the police officers to the University community” by:

*Purchasing a patrol vehicle and two golf carts for the purpose of providing higher levels of outer and inner campus patrol.

*Purchasing patrol bikes for increased bike patrol activity and visibility on campus.

*Offering RAD (Rape Aggression Defense) training to the university female community.

*Coordinating informational booths around campus.

*Coordinating officer presence at freshmen orientation booths.
