Intended Administrative or Educational Support Objective:

1.  Promote the leadership growth of the Student Government Association.

First Means of Assessment for Objective Identified Above:
1a. Means of Unit Assessment & Criteria for Success:
Tabulate the number of student members in the Student Government Association (SGA) senate, executive, judicial branches and compare this figure to the amount of members in the past.  The contact information form, which lists this information, will be compared and a 3% increase in participation is expected from the prior year.

1a. Summary of Assessment Data Collected:
SGA student membership increased by 62% from 2001-2002 to 2002-2003.  This growth took place in both the senate and judicial branches.  The increase experienced by the Senate Branch can be attributed to the growth rate of Texas A&M International University.  However, there is clear indication that student participation superseded the expected growth rates for this time period.

1a. Use of Results to Improve Unit Services:
The results will be used to determine whether or not SGA membership is growing, which will correspondingly indicate increased student involvement in campus life.  In addition, these results will be used to promote student representation on campus.  This information will also be used to explore what avenues best promote student awareness of campus-wide issues.

2a. Means of Unit Assessment & Criteria for Success:

2a. Summary of Assessment Data Collected:
There were three New Student Orientation dates for 2002-2003:  July 17, August 12, and August 20.  The overall summary from those events indicates that students rated Orientation with high marks.  On July 17, 79% rated Orientation from good to excellent.  On August 12, the rating was 88%, and on August 20, the rating was 73%.  These results indicate an overall satisfaction with the New Student Orientation and met the set goal of 80% for student satisfaction.

2a. Use of Results to Improve Unit Services:
The results will be studied to determine which programmatic areas received less student satisfaction in order to improve the overall program.
