1. Students completing the Bachelor of Arts in Music will acquire satisfactory musical knowledge and skills in addition to a basic liberal arts education.

2.  Students completing the Bachelor of Arts in Music will be proficient on the performance skills on one major instrument (at a minimum).

3.   Students completing the Bachelor of Arts degree in Music will be prepared to attain professional positions in music related fields.

1. Students completing the Bachelor of Arts in Music will acquire satisfactory musical knowledge and skills in addition to a basic liberal arts education.

First Means of Assessment for Outcome Identified Above:
1a. Means of Program Assessment & Criteria for Success:
Bachelor of Arts in Music graduates will be measured using a departmentally-administered comprehensive music examination.  Students must score at least 70% on the examination.

1a. Summary of Assessment Data Collected:
One student passed the examination (out of one).

1a. Use of Results to Improve Instructional Program:
Because only one student graduated in this term, there were insufficient data to make an evaluation of assessment criteria.

Second Means of Assessment for Outcome Identified Above:
1b. Means of Program Assessment & Criteria for Success:
Bachelor of Arts in Music graduates will be surveyed regarding their successful entry into graduate music programs.

1b. Summary of Assessment Data Collected:
Faculty could not yet collect data for this program.  The department received official status and approved degrees during the Fall 2002 semester.

Students completing the Bachelor of Arts in Music degree will demonstrate their proficiency on a major instrument before a panel of music instructors (Final Juries).

2a. Summary of Assessment Data Collected:
Only one student has graduated with this degree since the approval of this program.

3.   Students completing the Bachelor of Arts degree in Music will be prepared to attain professional positions in music related fields.

First Means of Assessment for Outcome Identified Above:
3a. Means of Program Assessment & Criteria for Success:
Bachelor of Arts in Music graduates will be surveyed one year after graduation by the Department to gather supporting data concerning whether or not the student was able to gain employment in the music field.  Benchmark for employment success is at least 70%.

3a. Summary of Assessment Data Collected:
One student graduated with this degree in the Spring 2003, this student has successfully been employed on the city.

3a. Use of Results to Improve Instructional Program:
One student graduated with this degree in the Spring 2003, this student has successfully been employed on the city.

Employers of music graduates will be surveyed two years after graduation by the Department to gather supporting data concerning satisfactory performance of graduate on their jobs.
