Intended Educational (Student) Outcomes:

1.
Graduates of the basic Bachelor of Science in Nursing program of the Canseco School of Nursing will be successful on the NCLEX-RN licensure examination.

2. Graduates of the Bachelor of Science in Nursing program of the Canseco School of Nursing will be employed as Registered Nurses in Laredo and the surrounding Mid Rio Grande region.

3. Graduates of the Bachelor of Science in Nursing program of the Canseco School of Nursing will demonstrate mastery of clinical competencies.

90% first time pass rate on NCLEX-RN.

2002:  100% (2 pending)

2001:  revised passing score on repeat HESI exit examination to 90
          revised policies and procedures for senior seminar course

1b. Means of Program Assessment & Criteria for Success:
Aggregate predictive score of 92% on HESI exit examination.

2001:  aggregate predictive score of 92.41
2002:  aggregate predictive score of 98.48

Pre-graduation self assessment survey administered and evaluated by School of Nursing Evaluation Committee; 85% plan employment in region.

2a. Summary of Assessment Data Collected:
2001:  96% pre-graduation
2002:  85% pre-graduation

2a. Use of Results to Improve Instructional Program:
2001:  continued support for local health care organizations
2002:  assessment (3 students out of town for advanced training)

Second Means of Assessment for Outcome Identified Above:
2b. Means of Program Assessment & Criteria for Success:
One year follow-up survey administered and evaluated by School of Nursing Evaluation Committee; 85% employed as RNs in region.

2b. Summary of Assessment Data Collected:
2001:  95% still employed as RNs in region after one year
2002:  ending evaluation in 2003

2b. Use of Results to Improve Instructional Program:
2001:  continued encouragement of students to work in community
          increased interaction with health care organizations in community

2001:  increased content in children’s health
2002:  revision of measure, per requirements of NLNAC and BNE

3b. Means of Program Assessment & Criteria for Success:
HESI exit exam administered during Senior Seminar Course (NURS 4190); sub scores in recommended range for safety and implementation, as verified by School of Nursing Evaluation Committee.

2002:  introduction of HESI exit exam data as measure planned addition of third measure (Clinical Skills Checklist) in 2003.
