To increase “(1) students’ ability to communicate the use of
the written and spoken word; (2) their knowledge and appreciation

[COAH] also prepares students for professions and roles by providing
a broad-based liberal arts education.
Intended Educational (Student) Outcomes:
1. Students completing the program will demonstrate their
advanced knowledge of the core ideas of the field sociology.
2. Students completing the program will be able to secure employment.
3. Students will be satisfied with the curriculum and instruction
of the sociology program.

Intended Educational (Student) Outcome:

1. Students completing the program will demonstrate their advanced
knowledge of the core ideas of the field sociology.
First Means of Assessment for Outcome Identified Above:
1a. Means of Program Assessment & Criteria for Success:
Students will take an essay exam to document knowledge of key concepts
of the core of ideas in the field of sociology. We expect an average
passing rate of 80%. The exam will be graded by all faculty using a
rubric of competency.
1a. Summary of Assessment Data Collected:
No graduates for majors. Should we consider minors in assessment?
1a. Use of Results to Improve Instructional Program:
We need to assure that we are all using the rubric in our classes
so that student’s are familiar with expectations and will perform
to the best of their ability when taking the exam.

Every Fall and Spring Semester, graduated students will be contacted
(for three years after graduation) by mail to determine if they have
secured employment. A survey will be used to document employment.
2a. Summary of Assessment Data Collected:
No graduates, but we identified 4 graduates from the previous
year. MA (1/4 grads) – Employed before graduating. Degree considered
very relevant.
2a. Use of Results to Improve Instructional Program:
We will use these graduates to help us create an advisory board
for curriculum development.
