1. Graduates will have the ability to think critically

First Means of Assessment for Outcome Identified Above:

Graduating seniors took the California Critical Skills Thinking Test during April 2004. Students taking the test will score at or above the median score for students at like universities.

1a. Summary of Assessment Data Collected:
Test administered during April 2004; awaiting test results.

1a. Use of Results to Improve Instructional Program:
The sample for spring 2004 was four and an N of 30 will be required to consider programmatic changes. However, because the test scores for 2003 were received in spring 2004, it is uncertain when a review of the new data will occur. A review of critical thinking areas identified on the test will be evaluated in terms of those possibly affected by course substitutions. The possible outcome of this review of course substitutions may result in a more stringent course substitution policy.

Second Means of Assessment for Outcome Identified Above:
1b. Means of Program Assessment & Criteria for Success:
The results of the California Critical Thinking Skills Test will be analyzed to determine the subscale scores. The median score on each subscale will not fall below the median score for students at like universities.

1b. Summary of Assessment Data Collected:
N is four (4). The testing company has not yet returned the results of the assessment.

1b. Use of Results to Improve Instructional Program:
Program faculty cannot make recommendations at this time for curriculum changes.

Intended Educational (Student) Outcome:
NOTE: There should be one form for each intended outcome listed.  Intended outcome should be restated in the box immediately below and the intended outcome number entered in the blank spaces.

2a. Graduates will be prepared for advancement in their chosen field.

First Means of Assessment for Outcome Identified Above:
2a. Means of Program Assessment & Criteria for Success:
Graduating seniors will be surveyed six months following graduation to gather supporting data on job advancements in terms of salary increases or promotions. Fifty percent of the graduating seniors will have improved job circumstances.

2a. Summary of Assessment Data Collected:
Data collection is dependent on a variety of factors most important of which is having current addresses for graduates. An attempt has been made to determine which graduates participated in the “e-mail for life drive” and use e-mail as a means of contact. However, there may be privacy issues in obtaining release of that information. The alumni association has been asked to provide a list of graduates for the purpose of developing a contact list.

2a. Use of Results to Improve Instructional Program:
Data are being developed through the aforementioned means; however, the projected N is anticipated to be too low to be a useful means of assessing the program.

Second Means of Assessment for Outcome Identified Above:
2b. Means of Program Assessment & Criteria for Success:
Graduating seniors will be surveyed to gather data concerning whether they believe the BAAS degree has prepared them to advance in their chosen field. A Likert scale ranging from 1 (not very well) to 5 (very well) will be utilized. At least 80% of those responding will agree the degree has prepared them well.

2b. Summary of Assessment Data Collected:
In spring 2004, 80% of the students were surveyed and 60% responded; 67% strongly agreed and 33% agreed the degree has prepared them to advance in their chosen field.

2b. Use of Results to Improve Instructional Program:
Results are inconclusive to suggest program changes although goals were met. The survey will continue in use until an N of 30 is reached.
