and resources necessary to successfully implement an instructional program.

will demonstrate their understanding of principles for assessing instructional
programs.

and Instruction will demonstrate their understanding of instructional
program design.
First Means of Assessment for Outcome Identified Above:
__1_a. Means of Program Assessment & Criteria for Success:
During their Oral Comprehensive Examination, students seeking the
Master of Science in Curriculum and Instruction will demonstrate their
understanding of instructional program design by responding to questions
asked by three faculty members and will achieve a minimum score of 2
out of a possible 3 on the designated rubric.
__1__a. Summary of Assessment Data Collected:
Only 1 individual completed the Oral Comprehensive Examination
in pursuit of a Master of Science in Curriculum & Instruction during
the Spring 2004 term. During the oral comprehensive exam, this individual
scored a 3 on this component of the oral exam.
__1__a. Use of Results to Improve Instructional Program:
These limited data suggest that the instructional program prepared
this student well. These results have been shared with faculty delivering
this program; however, no program revisions are contemplated at this
time given the limited data source.
Second Means of Assessment for Outcome Identified Above:

During their thesis or Professional Paper defense, students seeking
the Master of Science in Curriculum and Instruction will explain how
relevant understanding of principles of instruction surrounding successful
reading programs by explaining how relevant principles of instructional
program design have been incorporated into their thesis or professional
paper. Students will be expected to achieve a score of at least 3 out
of 4 on a rubric. Aspects to be addressed include: (1) Introduction
(including statement of purpose, research problem, research question(s),
significance of study); (2) Discussion of relevant research reviewed;
(3) Methodology and results (thesis only); (4) Conclusions reached ,
accompanied by appropriate rationale; and (5) Limitations and recommendations.

During the thesis defense in the Spring 2004 term, the individual
seeking the Master of Science in Curriculum & Instruction scored
a 4 on this component.
