TRiO/STAR Program


Mission

TRiO's Student Support Services at Texas A&M International University offers support services to economically disadvantaged students, first generation college students and students with disabilities. Program participants receive tutoring and supplemental instruction in academic areas, career, personal and academic counseling, and the opportunity to attend cultural activities outside the university.

TRiO's Student Support Services at Texas A&M International University is known as the STAR Program. The program also provides eligible students with special interest workshops, and opportunities to attend leadership conferences that will give them opportunities to successfully meet challenges of university life.


Services

The STAR Program offers support in:

«  Academic areas-tutoring and supplemental instruction

«  Counseling: Personal, Career and Academic

«  Special interest workshops

«  Cultural Events

«  University and community activities

«  Will pay for THEA test

«  Monetary stipends for those who qualify

 

*Students are required to participate a minimum of 6 hrs. per semester in any 2 STAR Program services*


Eligibility

STAR Program participants must meet the following requirements:

  • be a first generation*college student and/or
  • be economically disadvantaged (receive the Federal Pell Grant) or
  • be a disabled student
  • Veteran of the Armed Services

*a first generation college student is one whose neither parent has earned a baccalaureate degree.

The STAR Program is located on the first floor on the south west corner of the Killam Library
