TAMIU Graduate ObtainsInternship in New York
Michael Joseph Dole, a Laredoean and recent TAMIU graduate, will get a taste of U.S. economics during his summer internship in New York. Dole earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Economics from Texas A&M University, before returning to Laredo to pursue his MBA in International Banking at TAMIU. Dole taught at UISD's Antonio Gonzalez Middle School while pursuing his graduate degree. He also served as an intern for Texas State Representative Richard Raymond and was employed as an intern in the Public Affairs Department of International Bank of Commerce. Michael earned his Masters in December 2004 and will now intern for John Dunham & Associates in New York City beginning June 2005. Dole is the son of TAMIU adjunct faculty in the Canseco School of Nursing. John Dunham & Associates, a consulting firm in New York City that works in developing economic materials used in lobbying, governmental affairs, and litigation support whose clients include some of the nation’s largest companies. Several former interns have gone on to law school. Through the assistance of the TAMIU's career center, Dole learned and applied for the New York City internship. "John Dunham took interest in my resume because of my internship with IBC. This would be the internship facilitated through Dr. Michael Patrick’s Business Internship Course, where I interned in the public affairs department of IBC." Michael mentioned, "During my internship at IBC, I attained first hand knowledge on how business and politics can co-relate in order to be mutually beneficial, I was fortunate to be interned with IBC and learned how corporations must invest capital, labor and reputation in dealing with the political process. I believe my studies in business at TAMIU aided in studying the relationship external forces have on businesses. I feel my course work in Research Methodology, Seminar in International Banking, and Strategic Management aided me the most in understanding how government regulations, taxes, and future laws can affect the bottom line of today’s corporations."
