Alums in the News We Heard From Deanna Longoria Ramirez '72 wrote a letter to Dr. Ray M. Keck, III, President, in regards to the 35th Anniversary College Reunions. Deanna retired from the Texas Department of Human Services in 1996. She is involved in teaching CCD to 5th graders at St. Paul's Catholic Church in Mission, Texas. Deanna is a certified Etiquette Consultant specializing in children, teens, and young adults volunteering her services in working with small groups of children in order to improve their skills in etiquette and leadership. Jesus Amezcua '90, '94, '01, LISD Interim Superintendent, served as a mentor to Cristina Arriaga (Senior, majoring in communications), and Esmeralda Lopez (Freshman, majoring in communications) during National Mentoring month . This outreach campaign serves as a resource program for TAMIU’s current students.
Wedding Anniversary Congratulations go out to J.J. '77 and Minnie Dora Bunn Haynes '77 recently celebrated their 30th wedding anniversary. Minnie Dora is one of the volunteers who participates annually in the planning and coordination of WBCA events.

Hafizul Islam '01 and Eleni Athanatou '03 are engaged to be married.
Tracy Lizette Barraza '03 was honored with a bridal shower on Feb. 4, 2006, in Rio Grande City. A March 4th wedding date is planned.
Marisa Elsa Miranda and Fernando Ortega, Jr. '98. The couple plan to wed on June 17, 2006.
Roberto Javier Garcia, Jr. '03 and Sunshine Dierdre Dovalina plan to marry on July 22, 2006.
Rebecca de Luna and Ernesto Treviño ' 96 are planning their wedding for April 15, 2006.
Veronica C. Urbano and Jose “Joey” Baeza ' 99 announced their engagement. They plan to marry on May 15, 2006.
Dora J. Walker, ' 03, BBA and Guillermo G. del Barrio announced their wedding for March 11, 2006.
Graduation
Linda Mora-Zardenetta ' 75 received a Ph.D. in Educational Administration from the University of Texas at Austin during the Fall Convocation. Linda is currently deputy superintendent for curriculum and instruction at Northside school district in San Antonio, a position she has held since July 2002. Mora-Zardenetta is married to senior retired judge Antonio Zardenetta.

Longtime educator and counselor Annette K. Salinas '76, '79, has been with the Laredo Independent School District for 29 years.
Riazul I. Mia '03 is the director of environmental services for the City of Laredo. He likes to hike, listen to music, and cook.
Eduardo H. Zuniga '77, '05 is the associate superintendent for student support services at United Independent School District. He is described by his peers as an asset to the district.
Virginia “Cookie” Muller '76, is a broker at La Bota Ranch. She spends her free time walking, swimming, traveling, eating out and helping people. Thank you, Cookie, for your help during TAMIU Night at the Bucks!
Juan C. Carmona '04 is a physical education coach at Santo Niño Elementary. He enjoys playing basketball and flag football. He also enjoys listening to rock music.
Gerardo J. Mejia '92 is a partner at Mejia & Company, PLLC. He is the chairman of the professional division campaign for United Way of Laredo.
Marta Garcia ' 86 is bookkeeper at Wilkinson Iron and Metal. She is a volunteer with TAMIU Alumni Association's Rose Sale Committee, the American Red Cross, and Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program.
New Additions
Rolf Andre Schmieding was born on February 23, 2006 in San Antonio, Texas. The proud parents are Alejandra Robina Schmieding (alum non-grad) and Rolf Schmieding. Rolf is the grandson of Patty G. McBain '01, '05, director of alumni relations.
