In The Importance of Being Earnest, Oscar Wilde wrote, “The stage is not merely the meeting place of all the arts, but is also the return of art to life.” This was especially true Oct. 14, 2009, with the stirring performance of Man of La Mancha at our grand opening of the new Center for the Fine and Performing Arts Theatre. It was a night that truly “returned the arts to life” in Laredo.
But now that the curtain has fallen on this performance, the hard work begins. We must continue increasing our fine and performing arts programs at TAMIU and can only do so with partnerships. As you know, program development is an expensive process; therefore, by establishing an endowment for this department, we could move forward strongly in all areas.
To that end, we now offer our friends an opportunity dubbed “Take Your Seats,” an initiative to endow one or more seats for $300 - $750 each in the new theatre or the recital hall depending on the location. When you do so, you’ll take a permanent place in the history of cultural life in Laredo. For this donation, we’ll engrave yours or a loved one’s name on a plaque on a chair, recognize this support on our special Center for the Fine and Performing Arts’ donor wall, and provide a tax deduction as applicable.
TAMIU wants to always provide a dynamic learning environment hallmarked by academic and artistic excellence.
