Chapter 1607 - Reserve Educational Assistance Program (REAP)
The chapter provides all eligible persons to have 36 months of entitlement regardless of how long they have serve. No one can receive more than 48 months of combined entitlement.
To be eligible, the servicemember must be the following qualifications:
-served on active-duty in support of a contingency operation for 90 consecutive days or more, or
-performed full-time National Guard duty for 90 consecutive days or more for the purpose of responding to a national emergency and supported by Federal funds
-individuals are eligible as soon as they have served 90 consecutive days on active duty in a qualifying period of active-duty.
Checklist for Texas A&M International University
1.) Apply and be accepted to the university
2.) Complete the VA Application (VA Form 22-1990)
3.) Present discharge documents to the VA Assistant (located in KL168) (VA Form DD-214 & Notice of Basic Eligibility (NOBE) - Form 2384 that is obtained through your unit's Education Officer)
4.) Complete the "Request for Veteran Certification" form at the Office of the University Registrar.
Effective April 1, 2008,once a file is established and you are enrolled, monthly verification of enrollment is required of the student by Veterans Affairs (VA). Submit your monthly verification by toll-free touch-tone telephone at 1-877-823-2378 or connect to the internet site at http://www.gibill.va.gov and follow the Web Automated Verification of Enrollment (WAVE) program. If your enrollment has changed during the month, you must verify your enrollment through the WAVE program. Payment can be expected between the 1st and 5th of the month from the previous month. If you have not received your payment by the 5th of the month, please contact VARO at 1-888-442-4551. This number can also be called to set up direct deposit.
Please note: As part of our institutional policy, students are not certified until after the 12th class day for Fall and Spring semesters and after the 4th class day for the Summer sessions.
