May 2007 Graduation Ceremony

Saturday, May 12, 2007 on The Green at 8:00pm

Degree Conferral and Eligibility for Participation in Graduation Ceremonies: It is the policy of Texas A&M International University that only students who have completed their degree requirements participate in graduation ceremonies. There are two graduation ceremonies each year. May graduates attend the May ceremony. Students who finish requirements in any of the summer terms receive their diplomas in late August and are invited to attend the following December ceremony along with the December graduates.

Spring Graduation Application is due January 31, 2007.  ($50 Late Fee will apply if application is submitted after deadline)  To ensure your success for meeting graduation requirements, please meet with your academic advisor PRIOR to applying for graduation.


Calendar of Events

January 31 Deadline for May 2007 graduation application and payment. Late Fee of $50 will be charged for applications submitted after Jan. 31, 2007.
February 20 First Graduation Information Memorandum sent to May Graduation Candidates.
March 6-8

Graduation Prep Week! - Special Event      Noon-6pm   

Student Center Rotunda - 2nd Floor

March 14 Last day to submit LATE graduation application. Charges included are the $20 Graduation Fee and $50 Late Fee. Applications received after March 14th will be processed the following semester.
April 24 Second Graduation Information Memorandum sent to May Graduation Candidates.

May 2

The following items must be submitted to the Office of the University Registrar by this date in order to ensure that your name will appear on the graduation program:

  • Confirmation Form
  • Grade changes for prior incomplete grades due
  • Orals and Comprehensive Exam results for Master’s Degree Candidates                
  • All indebtedness to the University must be cleared

May 9

Candidates enrolled at another institution during the Spring 2007 semester must submit grades on a special form available in the Office of the University Registrar. If you fall into this category, please contact an advisor in the Office of the University Registrar immediately at 326-2247.

May 10

Master's Hooding Ceremony: 

College of Arts & Sciences, Student Center Ballroom, 6:30pm


May 11

Rehearsal for Commencement, on the Green at 10am.

Master’s Hooding Ceremonies:

College of Business Administration, WHTC 111, 4:00pm

College of Education, Student Center Ballroom, 4:30pm

School of Nursing Pinning Ceremony, Recital Hall, 7:00pm

Federal Stafford Loan Exit Counseling scheduled at 8:30am or 3:00pm in SC236.
May 12

Commencement Exercises will begin promptly at 8:00pm on the Green.

Candidates must be lined up no later than 7:00pm in the first floor of Kinesiology and Convocation Building (KCB).  (Pick up line-up name card at KCB lobby.)

June 13

Diplomas and official transcripts that have been previously requested with degree posted will be available.  Note: Diploma and transcript will not be released until all holds and transcripts for candidates enrolled at other institutions are received.

Clear Holds

Diploma and transcript will not be released until all holds have been cleared. You may view your holds on Uonline.

Concurrent Enrollment

Students enrolled at another institution during their last semester must submit grades on a special form available in the Office of the University Registrar. If you fall into this category, please contact an advisor at 326-2247.  In order to preliminarily clear your records you must submit an early grade. The official transcript from the other institution must be submitted to the Office of the University Registrar by deadline on the calendar of events.

Diploma Fee

Diploma Fee of $20.00 covers the diploma, miniature diploma and cover. The fee is to be paid at the Business Office. Diplomas will not be released if the fee has not been paid.  If you wish to request more than one copy of your diploma an additional $15.00 Duplicate Diploma fee will be applied for each additional request.


You may pre-order a commemorative DVD of the ceremony for $20.00 at the Office of the University Registrar.

Flash Photography

A professional photographer will be taking individual photos as degrees are awarded.  Please be sure to turn and face the photographer when receiving your degree.  Proofs and order information will be mailed to you about two weeks after the ceremony.  Please ensure that your mailing address is current.  For more information please visit http://www.flashphotography.com/.


Graduation with Honors: Requirements for graduation with honors include an overall minimum grade point average of 3.25 on work completed at Texas A&M International University as well as an overall minimum 3.25 GPA. Also required is the completion of at least 45 semester credit hours at Texas A&M International University . The grade point average on work transferred to this University must be less than the grade point average on Texas A&M International University work to be considered for honors. If the grade point average on transferred work is higher, only the grade point average on Texas A&M International University work will be used to determine eligibility for honors.

The criteria for graduation with honors are:

- Cum Laude (with honors): a GPA of 3.25 or higher but less than 3.5

- Magna Cum Laude (with high honors): a GPA of 3.5  or higher but less than 3.65

- Summa Cum Laude (with highest honors): a GPA of 3.65 or higher

Master's Candidates

Master's Degree Candidates: by now you should have scheduled a date for your oral and comprehensive exams with your respective Department Chairs for the major and minor(s). (Not required for MBA/MPACC candidates.) Deadline for completion of comprehensive exams and thesis defense is determined by your department. Students not completing will need to reapply for a future graduation term.

If you’re an international student, international faculty member or a TAMIU student who has studied abroad and received TAMIU academic credit, please consider ordering a special international sash to incorporate in your upcoming Commencement Exercise.  This is a great way to recognize your home country or to share your affinity for your country of study.  Sashes are $30.00 plus shipping and are available at www.visionwear.com. Rings and Invitations

Special Notes

As per the 2006-2008 University Catalog (page 61):


This ceremony occurs twice during the year to honor those students who have successfully completed their degree programs. Only those students who have been certified by their respective colleges and verified by the University Registrar may participate in commencement. The fee for graduation is listed in the Additional Fees section of the catalog. For further information on this process, call the Office of the University Registrar, (956) 326-2250.

Stafford Loan Exit Counseling

Federal Stafford Loan Exit Counseling scheduled:

Friday, May 11, 2007 at 8:30am or 3:00pm in SC236.

Students that have received Federal Stafford Loans are required to attend an Exit Counseling Session. For more information please call the Office of Financial Aid (326-2225 or 326-2227) or visit http://www.tamiu.edu/affairs/financial/.

Tuition Rebate Information

The state of Texas is providing financial incentives for students who complete their undergraduate degree with no more than three hours in excess of the minimum number of semester credit hours required for graduation. Hours attempted include transfer credits, course credits earned through examinations, courses dropped after the official census date, for credit developmental courses, internship and cooperative courses, and repeated courses. The rebate for eligible students is a maximum of $1,000.

To be eligible for rebates under this program, students must have: (1) enrolled for the first time in an institution of higher education in the Fall 1997 semester or later, (2) receive the baccalaureate degree from a Texas public university, and (3) been a resident of Texas and entitled to pay resident tuition at all times while pursuing the degree.   For more information please see TUITION REBATES FOR UNDERGRADUATE STUDENTS http://www.tamiu.edu/catalog/2005/geninfo.shtml
