Alumnus of the Month....
Laura Moncivais, 2002 BSN graduate, claims that living on campus while she was attending TAMIU made the difference in her college experience. At first she would drive back and forth to Zapata where she lived with her family. But she soon realized that the time she was on the highway was valuable time she could be using to study.
Living within walking distance of the library and the computer lab provided a safe environment. She spent countless hours in the Canseco School of Nursing computer labs working on the special programs and tutorials made available for the nursing students.
Laura enjoyed the opportunity of meeting international students. She made friends with students from Puerto Rico, Thailand, Morocco, and Greece. She embraced the diversity and will always remember the amazing relationships she established.
Today she lives in Zapata with her 21 old month baby girl Kristelle and works for two home health agencies. At a recent Alumni gathering in Zapata, she offered to serve as class representative.

$1,000 Scholarship Offered
to Students that Stay at Dorms
Housing requests at Texas A&M International University are on the rise and University officials are urging students reserve their rooms for this Fall in order to insure accommodation. This year a $1,000 scholarship is being given to all students who will reside in the Residence Halls for both Fall 2005 and Spring 2006 semesters.
Two housing options are now available at TAMIU: University Village on the campus' west side, and the new Residential Learning Community on the east side of the campus. Combined, both facilities have the capability of housing 650 residents.
Both are gated facilities and offer on-site management and resident assistants and varying amenities including swimming pools, cable TV, high-speed Internet, social lounges and laundry facilities.
Individual contracts are available for all housing.
University Village offers fully and unfurnished apartment homes, community center with widescreen TV, swimming pool, a spa, laundry facility and free basic cable and Internet. Floor plans range from one bedroom to four bedrooms.
The Residential Learning Community offers all private bedrooms, a lounge with plasma TV, lighted basketball court, two sand volleyball courts and a swimming pool with sun deck.
Applications for both housing facilities can be made online at housing.tamiu.edu.
For more information, visit offices located at 5281 University Boulevard (Residential Learning Center) or 4907 University Boulevard (University Village) or call (956) 326-1300 for the Residential Learning Center or (956) 326-0161 for University Village.
As the American population grows older and more dependent on technology, the number of medical and computer related jobs is escalating rapidly to keep pace with demand. According to the most recent data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), 15 of the 30 fastest-growing jobs in the United States are in healthcare, and another seven are computer related.
You can get statistics from the BLS's Occupational Outlook Handbook located at the Texas A&M International University’s Office of Career Services, Student Center, Room 114.
