Dustdevil Basketball Hosted Alumni Night

TAMIU gym

Saturday, January 26, 2008 was TAMIU’s Alumni Night for the Men’s and Women’s Home Basketball Doubleheader against St. Edward’s University.

The doubleheader was streamed as a live broadband broadcast on the NCAA Division II web site - www.cstv.com/ncaa/divii/.  It is the only Heartland Conference contest selected by the NCAA this season.

Festivities arranged by the TAMIU Alumni Association included a performance by Mariachi Los Arrieros and a Color Guard Presentation by the Boy Scouts, 407 Aztec District South Texas Council. A lucky fan, picked by random drawing had a shot to win the Wendy’s 30 Second Shot Challenge for a $10,000 dollar cash prize!

Chris Swan led the Dustdevils with 23 points, two assists, two blocks and two steals. Sean Tucker contributed 15 points and Derek Barnes added 11 points.

We lost but (93 - 8) but not after an exciting battle to an enthusiastic crowd.

Expanded “E-mail for Life” Features & Services

With 12,000 plus current users, TAMIU will launch an expanded and enriched e-mail service.

Our services will be moved off-site through a Microsoft-developed e-mail service, Windows Live features a dramatic increase in storage capacity, while a range of other benefits add robust features.  To start off, we'll see our student and alumni accounts grow from a 50-megabyte limit that auto-deleted every three months to a 5-gigabyte capacity that does not delete. This is a dramatic increase and provides students and alumni with great, reliable storage.

This account will function more like a Hotmail account with messaging, chat and a My Space-like component called 'Spaces,' in addition to customized web pages and a new Sky Key that functions as a virtual memory stick.

The service will be launched this Spring with students and alumni using a Web-based entry point to sign up and move their existing accounts over to the new System. E-mail addresses will remain the same and passwords can be retained or reset.

Information on Windows Live is available at get.live.com/edu/schools
