Two Laredo educators were chosen as 45 finalists statewide in the H-E-B Excellence in Education Awards program: Amparo Gutierrez Elementary Principal Nora Treviño and United High engineering magnet school physics teacher Orlando Patricio.
H-E-B representatives surprised Treviño and Patricio on Monday morning at their schools with flowers, cake, a check for $1,000 and a $2,500 school grant.

Laredo Chamber of Commerce
School Bell Award Winners
The Laredo Chamber of Commerce recognized nine outstanding teachers May 5, 2005. The educators were presented the Chamber's School Bell Award. Honorees: Leslie García ’92; Myra Agnes Phelps; Dr. Sushma Krishnamurthy, TAMIU Professor; Dolores Claes;
Alma Nora Rangel ’97; Cynthia D. S. Garza;
Roslinda S. Reyes ’76; Maria M. Gutierrez; and Jessica Cruz.
UISD School Nurse of the Year
Gloria Esparza (second from left), who works at Trautmann Middle School, was selected as the UISD Health Technician of the Year. Her selection was announced at the District's annual National School Nurse Day luncheon. Esparza was selected for this honor by her fellow Health Technicians throughout UISD. Also shown are (l-r) UISD Director of Discipline Managment Sandra Cavazos, Esparza, UISD Director of Health Services Linda Flores, R.N., and UISD Interim Superintendentent Roberto J. Santos. The luncheon was held the Laredo Campus Extension of the University of Texas Health Science Center.
