TAMIU Cheerleaders
Score Impressive National Recognition
This year, you might say TAMIU’s Cheerleading Squad
had something to shout about…and judges agreed. In their
first national competition, members placed second in their
Division at the NCA College National Championship finals
in Daytona Beach, FL. It’s the first time the University and its
squad has participated at this competition.
Elizabeth Torres, TAMIU outreach and retention specialist
who sponsors the squad, said all were ecstatic with their
historic results.
“The girls did an absolutely amazing job and we had a
very rewarding experience in our first competition. University
of Central Oklahoma (UCO) has a huge reputation for being
a powerhouse cheer group, and we came really close. We
managed to beat everyone in our Conference and had several
other universities providing us with positive comments. We
are very proud of our effort to represent TAMIU and Laredo,”
Torres said.
In addition to UCO, the 20-member TAMIU squad
competed against Dallas Baptist University, Brenau University,
Ocean County College, Bridgewater State University and
Lenoir-Rhyme University.
