Laredo, Texas is a multilingual, multicultural community that sits along the edge of the Rio Grande River. This river is the border which separates Texas and México. Just across the river is Nuevo Laredo. The two cities share commonality and are frequently referred to as, "Los Dos Laredos.”


The "International" component of our campus' name is reflected broadly across the Antonio R. Sanchez, Jr. School of Business:


International Diversity of ARSSB Students

Over the past 10 years, the ARSSB graduated over 1,800 undergraduate, and 1,300 Masters students. Among these graduates, were students from 33 different countries. The doctoral program began accepting students in 2004. Thus far, 28 students have earned their Ph.D. in International Business Administration. Currently, there are 19 students enrolled in the program. Current and graduate students of this program originate from at least 10 different counties.


International Diversity of the ARSSB Faculty and Staff

There are currently 60 full-time faculty and staff ready to serve your needs. Of the faculty, 39 come from 14 different countries. Their diversity adds depth and experience to your education. The countries of origin include: Argentina, Brazil, Burma, China, England, India, Iran, South Korea, Mexico, Nepal, Peru, Taiwan, and Venezuela. The majority of the faculty speak Spanish. This has enabled the ARSSB to develop and deliver dual programs with partner institutions in Mexico.


International Aspects of ARSSB Degree Programs

The Doctor of Philosophy in International Business prepares students for a competitive and ever-changing global environment. The international faculty expands your knowledge and transforms your understanding of business and all its social frameworks. The program provides you with the skill sets necessary for pedagogy and research.

The ARSSB offers three degree programs at the Masters level: Master of Business Administration –choose from four concentrations: Management, International Business, International Banking and Finance, and International Trade and Logistics; a Master of Science in Information Systems (MS- IS (STEM designated)), or a Masters of Professional Accountancy (MPAcc).

Master of Business Administration (MBA)
The MBA program in Management, International Business, and International Banking and Finance is offered face-to-face in English; online in English, and online in Spanish. The MBA in International Trade and Logistics is completely online. Additionally, the International Business, and International Banking and Finance MBAs offer explicit international themed electives.

Master of Science in Information Systems (MS-IS)
The Master of Science in Information Systems is now designated as a STEM program. This means that students may now extend their optional practical training (OPT) period from 12 months to 29 months. This program is particularly attractive to those individuals seeking to advance their careers in technology.

Master of Professional Accountancy (MPAcc)
This program is excellent for those seeking to expand their practice of public accounting. The program primarily focuses on the U.S. Accounting system, nevertheless, it does include a course in International Taxation (ACC 5355).

Executive Certificate in International Trade and Logistics
Laredo is an ideal location for students to experience, firsthand, the span of global trade transferred through its borders. The aim of the ARSSB’s International Trade and Logistics certificate is to help students and professionals in this field expand their knowledge and enhance their understanding. This certificate is comprised of the following courses: Import Operations and Practice (TIL 5311), Export Operations and Practice (TIL 5312), Customs Broker License Preparation (TIL 5313), and International Logistics (TIL 5370). These classes may be applied to the MBA in International Trade and Logistics.


Undergraduate Programs

Within the ARSSB, there is one undergraduate degree program – the BBA, offered with: (1) Major in Accounting, (2) Major in Management Information Systems & Data Analytics, (3) Concentration in Business Administration, (4) Concentration in International Economics, (5) Concentration in Finance, (6) Concentration in Management, and a (7) Concentration in Marketing.

All majors and concentrations for business students require the completion of 120 SCH. Included in the curriculum for every degree candidate in the ARSSB – whether the student has chosen a major or a concentration -- is the requirement of the completion of BA 3320 – International Business.

In addition to the required International Business Course, BA 3320, students in business can take other internationally designated courses as electives to complete their program. In the ARSSB, the college has, in addition to BA 3320, five other undergraduate courses that are specifically oriented to the study of international business: (1) ECO 3325 – Latin American Economic Issues, (2) ECO 4340 – International Economics, (3) FIN 4380– International Finance, (4) MKT 4310 –International Marketing, and (5) TIL 3311 – Export/Import Operations and Practice. In summary, all business students are required to take at least 3 SCH in international business. Some concentrations, like International Economics and Marketing, also have additional required international business courses, from 6 SCH to 9 SCH, with the Finance concentration having as one of its most popular chosen elective choices, FIN 4380, International Finance.


Study Abroad Experiences for Students in the ARSSB

The ARSSB offers a diverse set of learning experiences which include internships, exchange programs, workshops, conferences, and seminars which increase the knowledge, skills, and professional ethics of a new generation of future business leaders who will function in a diverse, sustainable and globally competitive environment. In addition to specific exchange program agreements with other universities, business students also travel abroad to study. These travel abroad experiences include those that are faculty-led, as well as those in which the student travels alone. ARSSB students have completed study abroad experiences in many countries–Argentina, Chile, China, the Netherlands, South Korea, Italy, Germany, Belgium, and Greece.

Minor in International Leadership
This is an academic program providing a minor for undergraduate students. It consists of 18 Semester Credit Hours courses and experiences in leadership, including communication, foundations of leadership, teamwork, international politics and transnational trends in communication, among others.
