Certificate in International Studies


The Certificate in International Studies (CIS) allows undergraduate students to heighten their degree program with a concentration in international studies. It enhances their options for pursuing careers in the foreign service, international institutions, non-governmental international organizations, or multinational corporations. The CIS encourages a multidisciplinary approach and is housed at the Binational Center.

Requirements

Students must be undergraduate, be accepted in an established academic department, and successfully complete a minimum of twelve semester-credit hours herein listed as Approved Courses with no less than a C.

Application Process

Student applicants can turn in their completed CIS Application and a TAMIU transcript (unofficial is accepted) at the Binational Center in Student Center 118. Applications must be received by December 1st for Fall graduates, and by May 1st for Spring graduates. Click on CIS APPLICATION to start the application process. 

Approved Courses

Courses have been selected based on their global context and relevance for fostering cross-national understanding. It is not an exclusive list. Other courses such as a lower division international studies course, an international capstone seminar, or those taken under a study abroad experience can be accepted as alternatives to the ones listed below.
