EDYC 4365

Design of Early Learning Environments

Three semester hours.

This course provides an introduction to the characteristics of quality early learning environments. Emphasis is on physical and social aspects of the indoor outdoor learning environments serving children ages 3-6 ears, including whole group space, learning centers, transitions, safety, and adult-child and child-child interactions. A survey of international and national models is included, as is the impact of child care licensure standards on environmental design. The Early Childhood Environment Rating Scale (ECERS-R) will be utilized. Prerequisites: EDYC 3366. Admitted to and in good standing in the College of Education.
