This course is an intense analysis of federal and state court decisions that interpret the United States Constitution as to the authority and process of criminal justice agencies. Topics include a historical overview, detention, arrest, search and seizure, interrogations and confessions, self-incrimination, due process, and right to counsel, trial, and punishment. Prerequisite for CRIJ majors: Successful completion of 12 lower-level CRIJ required courses. Prerequisite for non-CROJ majors: Twelve hours of social sciences outside of CRIJ.
