EDCI 3309
Theory and Practice of Classroom Guidance.
Three semester hours.
This course will provide the prospective teacher a variety of survival counseling skills appropriate in the PK-12 classroom environment. Specific emphasis will include: (1) basic conceptualization and intervention strategies designed to keep students in the classroom, (2) recognition of behaviors and conditions justifying referrals, (3) appropriate referral sources and what to expect from them, and (4) practical techniques to minimize teacher distress and maximize personal and professional wellness. The course is designed to increase the probability of experiencing success in the first year of teaching and persisting in the profession. A grade of "C" or better must be earned to successfully complee the course. Prerequisite: Admission to the College of Education and 2.7 overall grade point average.
