Required Text: The Administrative Professional, by Patsy J. Fulton-Calkins, Dianne S. Rankin, and Kellie A. ShumackThis challenging online course prepares you to work in the growing field of assisting business executives in management of daily operations. Students complete the course over eight weeks, and successful grads will be awarded a Certificate upon the successful completion of eight weekly assignments and projects (comprising 60% of the final grade) and eight tests (comprising 40% of the final grade).
Week One: The Professional Work Environment
After completing the assignments and test for week one, students will have learned the following:
- Maintaining a professional image, including how to dress appropriately and conduct oneself professionally
- Getting and staying organized
- Defining the elements of different types of work environments and work cultures
Week Two: Developing Effective and Ethical Work Habits
After completing the assignments and test for week two, students will have learned the following:
- Promoting client satisfaction with excellent customer service skills
- Working as a member of a team
- Dealing with quality control issues
- Maintaining ethical practices in the workplace
Week Three: Communicating Clearly
After completing the assignments and test for week three, students will have learned the following:
- Communicating effectively in presentations and meetings
- Writing clearly in letters and emails, including developing proper grammar skills
- Using modern office communication technology, including networks, telephone systems, mobile phones, email, instant messaging, discussion groups, video conferencing, and fax machines
- Troubleshooting internet and other technology snafus
Week Four: Records and Communication Management
After completing the assignments and test for week four, students will have learned the following:
- Properly maintaining company records, including controlling access to records and insuring record safety
- Handling incoming and outgoing mail, faxes, and email communications in an orderly and organized manner
Week Five: Planning, Scheduling, and Organizing the Business Meeting
After completing the assignments and test for week five, students will have learned the following:
- Organizing business meetings and conferences
- Marketing and promoting business conferences
- Arranging business travel
Week Six: Managing the Financial Responsibilities
After completing the assignments and test for week six, students will have learned the following:
- Managing employee benefits and payroll
- Maintaining financial statements and other financial documentation
Week Seven: Developing Leadership Skills
After completing the assignments and test for week seven, students will have learned the following:
- Understanding leadership theories and styles
- Developing the qualities and skills required to effectively lead people
Week Eight: Finding and Maintaining an Executive Administrative Assistant Position
After completing the assignments and test for week eight, students will have learned the following:
- Highlighting your education and skills to find the right position for you
- Discovering job sources
- Improving interviewing skills
- Developing strategies for moving up within the company
