Upon completion of the reading assignments, writing assignments, and tests, students will have learned:
  • The differences between leases and other real estate interests
  • How to create, modify, extend, renew, and/or terminate a lease
  • How to legally screen potential tenants
  • The duties owed by landlords to tenants
  • The tenant's security deposit and rent payment obligations
  • How rent controls, taxes, and insurance impact a tenancy agreement
  • How to refer to local standard real estate forms for lease language that protects each party to a lease
  • The process of eviction
