Our Mission

The faculty and staff of the Department of Engineering, Mathematics, and Physics  are committed to excellence in teaching, research, service, and outreach. The programs within the Department lead to discovery, analysis, and dissemination of the knowledge of astronomy, computer science, engineering, mathematics, physics, and statistics. The Department provides a foundation in its disciplines for all graduate and undergraduate students as well as for teacher certification programs for mathematics and physical sciences majors. Our goals are to equip the graduates with the tools necessary to fully participate in a technological society and competitive global environment. The Department is committed to:

The Vision

The mathematical and physical sciences are central to all scientific disciplines and form the basis for innovation in modern technology. The Department's vision is to create an integrated teaching, research, and outreach unit to enhance the visibility, linkages, and impact of its disciplines at the University and community. For this, vital core focus areas will be developed, and participation in multidisciplinary collaborations will be encouraged. The Department will maintain broad strength in all of its disciplines, and cement connections between areas in order to provide the foundations that underline scientific principles and to prepare students to function and flourish in an increasingly competitive technological society.
