Dr. Yu-Mei Huang is Assistant Professor of Upper Strings at Texas A&M International University.  She is from Taipei, the capital city of Taiwan and was awarded first prize in the Violin Performance Competition of Taiwan at age 15.  Dr. Huang received both her undergraduate and graduate degrees in violin performance and conducting at Florida International University (FIU).  She was the principle violinist of the orchestra as well as the assistant conductor of the university wind ensemble during her studies at FIU.  After her studies at FIU, Dr. Haung received a full scholarship and assistantship at the University of Miami where she earned her Doctor of Musical Arts in 2005 under Professor Glenn Basham.  She served as the concert master and associate conductor of the University of Miami Symphony Orchestra as well as an instructor of strings for the "Kids Program."  In addition to her responsibilities at Texas A&M International University she also serves as the concert master of the Laredo Philharmonic Orchestra.
