TAMIU’s College of Education will offer a five-week study abroad program in Madrid, Spain. Directed by Drs. Miki Henderson and Diana Linn, you will experience Spain’s capital in an up-close and personal way. The CAPA Madrid Center is a lively place with a strong sense of community, created by the close interaction between Spanish and international students. Regular activities include outings to museums, concerts, and lectures. Program participants will meet with Ministry of Education representatives and visit Spanish public schools. Included in this program is a 50 Euro cultural fund for each student and a monthly metro pass.
Students live within commuting distance of the CAPA center in shared apartments (double occupancy). Meals are not included in the housing arrangement.
Timetable for Applications and Payment
Applications will not be processed unless they are completed and received by the stated deadline.
The program cost $ 3,850. This excludes the roundtrip airfare to Spain, meals, and TAMIU tuition/fees.
Study Abroad Scholarships
TAMIU/OIE offers two scholarships for study abroad. Qualified students may complete their application and supporting documents and submit them to OIE together with their study abroad application. Scholarship funds will be disbursed according to the financial aid office disbursement cycle, which is no earlier than end of May 2009 for this program.
All students are required to enroll in:
CAPA Course Contemporary Spanish Society 3 SCH (SPAN or EDBE 4399/5390)
And must choose one of following:
EDEC 2324/5324 The Young Child/Child Development 3 SCH (PSYC 2312)
EDDP 4324/5327 Teaching Diverse Student Populations 3 SCH (SOCI 3310)
Withdrawal from a study abroad program must be made in writing to OIE. The application fee of $350 is non-refundable, and will be applied towards your program cost. No refunds are made after 31 March 2009 of program deposits. Refunds will be calculated from the date OIE is notified in writing of your intent to withdraw. TAMIU is not responsible for indirect costs paid directly by students, including but not limited to passport fees, vaccinations, and transportation costs.
