Camp Goals

  • This camp is designed to manage campers' body weight and change campers' lifestyle to maintain their healthy behaviors through life.
  • Our goal is to change the campers' exercise & diet patterns and further enhance their self-esteem & self-confidence.
  • Campers will enjoy physical activities and learn new lifestyle.

 

Camp Accommodation

  • We will accommodate first 60 students aged 8-16 year boys and girls.
  • Teacher/student ratio will be less than 1:20 in this camp.

 

Camp Registration

This following costs include accidental insurance. Campers should bring their drink and snacks.

  1. Summer I : $250
  2. Summer II : $250
  3. Summer I + II : $450/$400 (research participants)
  4. For research participants, $40 gift card will be given to your child when he/she will complete each of second (after camp) and third (1 year follow-up) tests.

Registration will be taken at Room 209, KWRC (Recreation center) , TAMIU (956-326-2685).

 

2011 Camp Schedule

  1. Summer I: June 6th – July 1st: 4 weeks
  2. Summer II: July 11th – August 5th: 4 weeks
  3. Mon ~ Fri / 1:30pm-5:30pm

 

Camp Program

     1. Physical activity

  • 3 hour physical activity will be given at low-moderate intensity (about 60-80%  max heart rate), which maximizes fat burn.
  • All physical activities will be held indoor Gym under air-conditioner.
  • Aerobic activities include indoor soccer, basketball, fitness dance (Zumba +), exercises with machines and all fun activities.
  • Strength activities include interval training, Body pump, and fun games.
     2. Lecture
  • Two hour lectures regarding healthy lifestyle will be given every week.
  • The goal is to change participants' lifestyle permanently.
  • Issues are "How our body works with Healthy diet, Good exercise, and psychological mind"

     3. Certified dietitian will observe children’s diet pattern every week and give them a new diet program.

     4. All activities will be supervised by Red Cross CPR & First aid certified individuals.

Drop off and pick up

Camp instructors will help drop off and pick up in front of Fine Art Building.
