Pre-Assignment Phase

After acceptance into the Alternative Certification Program, participants begin coursework starting summer session I.  The first two courses satisfy the state required 80 hours of training and prepare the participant for entering the classroom.  The first two courses are:  EDCI 5300 and EDSE 5307.  Participants pay for course work and books.

Participants will also complete the state required 30 hours of classroom observations during the summer and fall of entry into the program.  The ACP office will provide clearance forms for each district and participants will be assigned a schedule of teachers to observe. Documentation is turned in to the Director for final approval.

During the this time, the participant will is also required to successfully pass his/her content exam and at the end of summer session, the Pedagogy and Professional Responsibilities (PPR) exam.  Pre-Test in participants’ area of certification - mandatory program requirement - and will be scheduled after admission into the program.

Upon completion of observation hours and successful content testing and PPR, participants will be given approval to seek employment at the end of the EDSE 5307 course.  Final approval will not be given until both courses are complete with a "B" or better and content and PPR exams are passed.

If hired, the participants enter the Intern phase of the program.
