CASE STUDY # 5

FRIDAY FOOTBALL FEVER

At Warren Easton High School in inner city New Orleans, student participation, teacher support and community involvement with regards to extracurricular activity is at an all time high. Students love going to school, and teacher's love going to work. One Friday night after a football game, several members of the faculty decide to go and have a few "celebratory" drinks at popular downtown bar/restaurant. During the course of the evening two football players along with their cheerleader girlfriends arrive at the restaurant. One of the teachers at the table decides to invite them over to the table. Eventually all parties at the table wind up having a couple of beers. By Monday morning, news of this chance encounter spreads; needless to say the Principal Ms Inyaface is not a happy camper. The phones are ringing off the hook, including several calls form board members.

  1. What should be the Principal first course of action?
  2. What should the Principal say with regards to the incoming phone calls?
  3. What steps should the Superintendent take as news spreads throughout the community?
  4. What action or measures would be appropriate for the teachers involved in his incident at this time?
