Defensive Driving Course


This course is approved and recognized by the Texas Department of Insurance, and includes a certificate valid for Insurance Reduction or Ticket Dismissal.

Take advantage of this 6-hour course from 6:00 p.m to 9:00 p.m.!

Paralegal Certificate Course

Description:

This intensive, nationally acclaimed program is designed for beginning as well as advanced legal workers. The instruction is practiced-oriented and relates to those areas of the law in which legal assistants are most in demand. There are no prerequisites, but students will be expected to complete a significant amount of homework for each weekend session. This program will help students increase their office's efficiency, productivity, and billable hours as well as learn new marketable job skills. Successful graduates will be awarded a Certificate from Texas A & M International University. To receive a Certificate, students must pass six quizzes and successfully complete five legal document writing assignments.

In this course, you will learn how to:
  • assist trial attorneys
  • interview witnesses
  • investigate complex fact patterns
  • research the law
  • assist in preparing cases for courtroom litigation

Schedule:


Live lecture classes will be held on SIX weekends (Saturdays and Sundays) from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Fall 2007 Session

August 25 & 26, Sept. 8 & 9, 15 & 16, 22 & 23, 29 & 30, October 13 & 14, 2007.

No classes on Sept. 1 & 2 for Labor Day or October 6 & 7 for Columbus Day.
Sat. & Sun., 9 am - 5 pm

Spring 2008 Session

March 29 & 30, April 12 & 13, 19 & 20, 26 & 27, May 3 & 4, 10 & 11, 2008.

No classes will be held on April 5 & 6 for Easter.

Location: Texas A&M International University

Tuition: $1090.00 per person

Required textbooks:
  • Texas Rules of Court
  • Introduction to Paralegalism, 5th edition, by William Statsky
  • Basics of Legal Document Preparation, by Robert Cummins
  • Paralegal Procedures and Practices
  • A Paralegal Primer, 3rd edition, by Scott and Lisa Hatch

These textbooks are available for approximately $250 from The Center for Legal Studies at least one week prior to the first session of class by calling 1-800-522-7737. Books ordered from The Center for Legal Studies during the week immediately prior to the beginning of class will incur an additional FedEx fee.

 

Instructors:


The program is coordinated by our educational partner, Scott Hatch, J.D. of The Center for Legal Studies, who has been offering paralegal programs nationally since 1980. His courses are currently offered at over 350 universities and colleges across the U.S. and his "Law for Life" series is featured on cable television.
The course will be taught by area attorneys and other legal professionals including Valeria Acevedo.

Texas A&M International University will offer a SAT Preparation Workshop on

June 4 - June 29, 2007 Monday - Friday 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

The SAT Preparation workshop is designed to build skills required in Math, English, and Writing for an improved SAT score! The course cost is $350.00 which includes a Pre-Test, Post-Test, and Books
