Greetings,

As new Director of the Center for Earth and Environmental Studies I look forward to deepening our ties to the local community. In addition to our ongoing efforts involving public outreach we additionally will be soon deploying a network of weather stations and radar system to monitor precipitation variability in the region. This effort will allow us to provide to you in the TAMIU service area real-time weather and climatic conditions via the web and other media outlets. Additionally, this information will allow us to better address the availability of water resources in the region. In addition, one of the major missions of the center is to serve as a clearinghouse for drought and environmental issues in this region. Finally, I would like to state that I am new to the Laredo area. Therefore, I would appreciate feedback from you in terms of how best the center can best serve the south Texas area.
