KINESIOLOGY (EDKN)

EDKN 1101 Aerobic Activities. One semester hour.

A variety of activities, including dancing, to strengthen the heart, lungs, and vascular system. One hour lecture and one hour laboratory per week.

EDKN 1102 Archery and Badminton. One semester hour.

Instruction and participation in the basic skills of archery and badminton. One hour lecture and one hour laboratory per week.

EDKN 1104 Beginner Swimming. One semester hour.

Instruction in the fundamentals of swimming for beginners. One hour lecture and one hour laboratory per week.

EDKN 1105 Fencing. One semester hour.

Instruction and practice in the fundamental skills of fencing. One hour lecture and one hour laboratory per week.

EDKN 1106 Folk and Square Dancing. One semester hour.

Instruction and application in the techniques of folk and square dancing. One hour lecture and one hour laboratory per week.

EDKN 1108 Social Dance. One semester hour.

Instruction and practice in social, ballroom, country western, and recreational dance. One hour lecture and one hour laboratory per week.

EDKN 1111 Weight Training and Conditioning. One semester hour.

Individualized conditioning programs to improve muscle strength, flexibility, and endurance. Cardiopulmonary endurance will be developed through exercises. One hour lecture and one hour laboratory per week.

EDKN 1130 Golf. One semester hour.

Instruction and practice in the basic skills of golf. One hour lecture and one hour laboratory per week.

EDKN 1140 Bowling. One semester hour.

Instruction and practice in the basic skills of bowling for beginners. One hour lecture and one hour laboratory per week.

EDKN 1143 Tennis. One semester hour.

Instruction and practice in the basic skills of tennis. One hour lecture and one hour laboratory per week.

EDKN 1149 Racquetball. One semester hour.

Instruction and practice in the fundamentals of racquetball. One hour lecture and one hour laboratory per week.

EDKN 2216 Health, Physical Education, Psychomotor Development and Creative Movement. Two semester hour.

An integration of health, physical education, psychomotor development and creative movement relating to developmental tasks of children, this experiential foundation is designed to stimulate awareness of, sensitivity to, and growth in health practices, physical fitness and dance, and other cultural expressions that improve the quality of life. This course requires varying degrees of physical exertion to complete the different activities involved. Consequently, any student having doubts as to whether he or she can fulfill these requirements should check with the instructor prior to enrolling in the course.

EDKN 2222 Health Education for Elementary Schools. Two semester hour.

Methods and materials in preparation for teaching of health in the elementary schools. A study of the health inspection; examination and school health environment; and the place of the teacher in the school health program. Includes development of a health education vocaulary.

EDKN 4399 Issues in Kinesiology. One-Three semester hours.

This course examines current topics in kinesiology. May be repeated once when topic changes.
