MULTICULTURAL EDUCATION (EDME)
EDME 4324 Teaching Diverse Student Populations. Three semester hours.
This course focuses on developing knowledge of how student diversity affects and influences instruction. Special attention is given to instructional models which have proven successful with students representing diverse linguistic, cultural, racial, ethnic, economic, and intellectual backgrounds. Preservice teachers will complete a variety of activities in the field that require them to organize instruction and manage the needs of a diverse student population. Preservice teachers will develop and implement instructional strategies, materials and resources, multifaceted authentic assessment techniques, and technology to support the learning and development of all students. Students must earn a grade of C or better to successfully complete the course. Prerequisites: a minimum overall grade point average of 2.5 and completion of required Block I courses with a C or better.
EDME 4399 Issues in Multicultural Education. One-Three semester hours.
This course examines current topics in multicultural education. May be repeated once when topic changes. Prerequisite: an overall 2.5 grade point average and permission of the instructor.
EDME 5327 Multicultural Education: Teaching Racially, Culturally and Linguistically Diverse Students. Three semester hours.
The major emphasis of this course is to develop a strong foundation in cultural and human diversity. Issues related to cultural groups will be addressed. Integrated curriculum and instructional models to meet the needs of culturally diverse students will be examined intensively. Prerequisite: graduate standing.
EDME 5399 Special Issues in Multicultural Education. One-Three semester hours.
Course examines timely topics of concern to educators involved in making decisions regarding multicultural education. May be repeated once when topic changes. Prerequisites: graduate standing and permission of the instructor.
