Program Dates

Session I: June 4 – June 24, 2011 

Session II: 25 June - 15 July, 2011

Program

This summer course is three weeks long (choose either session I or II) and titled "Doing Business in Europe".  Offered by our exchange partner Arnhem Business School, you will have the opportunity to participate in business seminars by a diverse group of professors, conduct a case study on Flora Holland (one of the largest flower auctions in the world), and play executive by participating in a management game. 

Organized day trips take place on Fridays.  Last year the students had weekend activities in Nijmegen/Arnhem, and as well visited Rotterdam and Amsterdam.  Furthermore, you are short distances away from major cities in Europe (Paris approx. 3 hrs. and Berlin approx. 5 hrs).

Week One

Nijmegen

Arrive in Amsterdam, transport to Nijmegen and check-in to housing. Orientation meeting and tour of Nijmegen by Dutch students.   Classes this week include seminars on Dutch and European Culture and Economy, followed by a business case on Flora Holland.

Week Two

Nijmegen

Various seminars covering topics in European Logistics, Consumer Behavior and Business Law

Week Three

Arnhem

Business Management Game -- work together with other students making executive decisions in multicultural groups. 

Accommodation

You will be housed in off-campus shared housing on the basis of self catering in the village of Groesbeek, near Nijmegen.  Each modern bungalow sleeps 5-6 people in double bedrooms and has a bathroom and fully equiped kitchen.  Bed linen and towels are included.  Wireless internet is available for free.  During your stay, you can use the facilities such a a gym, swimming pool and spa for free. Meals are not included in the housing arrangement.

Program Cost

Program cost is $ 1,200 EUR, excluding roundtrip airfare to Amsterdam, meals, and TAMIU tuition/fees.

11 March Program Installment of $ 1,000
16 April Remaining program balance due (depending on exchange rate)
Applications will not be processed unless they are completed and received by the stated deadline.

Application Process

1)  Turn in your TAMIU study abroad application and fee and ABS application by the recommended deadline. 

2)  As soon as you have received approval/ confirmation of your acceptance, you may apply for any of the TAMIU study abroad scholarships for which you qualify.

3)  Print out a Financial Aid Budget Form and see your Financial Aid Advisor to have your budget updated

4) Complete and turn in your Waiver and Liability Packet by 1 May 2010

Study Abroad Scholarships

TAMIU/OIE offers two scholarships for study abroad, the International Education Fee Scholarship and the Guadalupe and Lilia Martinez Scholarship. Qualified TAMIU students may complete their application and supporting documents and submit them to OIE together with their study abroad application. You will be notified via email of your award and the award disbursement date. If you qualify for both scholarships you can be awarded between $1,500 - $2,500.

Course Information

All students are required to enroll for a total of 3 SCH either in BA 4399 or MGT 4399.

Program Requirements

Students must have been approved by Ms. Maggie Blasco, A.R. Sanchez, Jr. School of Business undergraduate advisor for acceptance into this program.

Refunds**

Withdrawal from a study abroad program must be made in writing to OIE. The application fee of $200 is non-refundable, unless TAMIU cancels the program. The application fee will be applied to your total program cost. After this, TAMIU will refund recoverable tuition and costs as determined by OIE. Refunds will be calculated from the date OIE is notified in writing of your intent to withdraw. TAMIU is not responsible for indirect costs paid directly by students, including but not limited to passport fees, vaccinations, and transportation costs.
