Program

TAMIU’s College of Education will offer a three-week study abroad program in the cities of Hong Kong, Shen Zhen and Beijing, China. In this program you will learn about the cultural impact on children’s language and literacy development.  While in Hong Kong and Beijing, students will benefit from visits to a number of local schools and universities, and will interact directly with children, parents, and teachers.  There are scheduled meetings with the Ministry of Education, the observation and teaching of some lessons, including the joint-teaching of a “language and literacy” class with local school teachers.

To learn more directly about Chinese cuisine, tradition, and customs, students will have the opportunity to live with a local family for two days.   Other cultural immersions activities include visits to the Chinese Folk Culture Villages (Shen Zhen), and the Forbidden Palace, Summer Palace, historical market, and Great Wall (Beijing).
