Program Dates

May 17– June 6, 2010. 

Program

The A.R. Sanchez Jr. School of Business will offer a three-week study abroad program in various cities (Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Hong Kong, Shanghai and Beijing) in China.  This three credit program consists of a business course on global supply chain management, and is directed by Dr. Haibo Wang, a native of China and Assistant Professor at the A.R. Sanchez College of Business Administration. The course can be taken for undergraduate or graduate credit.

While in China, students will enjoy lectures at various key universities and have the opportunity to visit several multinational companies and financial institutes.  All on-site travel in China, housing and meal expenses are included in the program fees.

Shenzhen/Hong Kong

Lectures at Chinese University of Hong Kong and Shenzhen University, company visits to the Hong Kong Stock Exchange, ShenZhen Stock Exchange, and Midea.  Cultural visits to Hong Kong Disney and Grand Budda Island.

4-7th day

Guangzhou

Lectures at Sun Yat-Sen University and South China University of Technology, company visits to V-tron Group, Pearl River Brewery (InBev subsidiary), Baiyun Pharmaceutical Group (Hutchison Whampoa Ltd.) Cultural visits to Chen Jia Courtyard, Pearl River.

8 – 11th day

Shanghai

Lectures at Shanghai Maritime University, company visits to the Shanghai Stock Exchange, various financial institutions in the Shanghai Finance district, World Expo 2010, Shanghai AIG Headquarters. Cultural visits to the traditional Chinese Village and Shanghai Gardens.

11-17th day

Beijing

Lectures at Peking University, with company visits to the Chinese Academy of Science, Ministry of Civil Affairs, Chinese Development Bank, CCTV and Xinhua New and the Economic Development Center.  Cultural visits to Temple of Heaven, the Great Wall, Forbidden City and the Olympic Park.

Accommodation

While in China, students will reside in university residences in double occupancy rooms.  Meals will be taken at university cafeterias and/or local restaurants.

Program Cost

The program cost is estimated at $ 3,950. This excludes the roundtrip airfare to China, tourist visa, and TAMIU tuition/fees

Timetable for Applications and Payment

1 March Application and $200 non-refundable application fee due to OIE
15 March Program Installment of $ 1500
1 April Airline ticket boooking required
1 May Remaining program balance of $ 2,250

Applications will not be processed unless they are completed and received by the stated deadline.

Application Process

1)  Turn in your TAMIU study abroad application and application fee by the recommended deadline.  If you are a Texas A&M University System student, complete the TAMUS application and also submit an official transcript.

2)  Apply for any of the TAMIU study abroad scholarships for which you qualify.

3)  The financial aid budget form is for your own information, an update of your educational expenses will be provided by OIE to the Office fo Financial Aid.

4) Complete and turn in your Waiver and Liability Packet by 1 May 2010

Study Abroad Scholarships

TAMIU/OIE offers two scholarships for study abroad.  Qualified TAMIU students may complete their application and supporting documents and submit them to OIE together with their study abroad application.  You will be notified via email of your award and the award disbursement date.

Program Requirements

Students must have been approved by Dr. Wang for acceptance into the program.

Refunds**

Withdrawal from a study abroad program must be made in writing to OIE.  The application fee of $200 is non-refundable, unless TAMIU cancels the program.  The application fee will be applied to your total program cost.  After this, TAMIU will refund recoverable tuition and costs as determined by OIE.  Refunds will be calculated from the date OIE is notified in writing of your intent to withdraw.  TAMIU is not responsible for indirect costs paid directly by students, including but not limited to passport fees, vaccinations, and transportation costs.

**TAMIU reserves the right to adjust program fees or cancel any program without prior notification; however, every effort will be made to provide information on cancellations in a timely manner.  In the event of cancellation, TAMIU will refund application fees and recoverable program fees.
