OVERVIEW

The University:  The European University Viadrina was founded in 1991 and began its first academic year in 1992.  In cooperation with affiliated universities throughout Europe and the world, the Viadrina, due to it geography and history, plays a special role as a bridge between Eastern and Western Europe.  One third of the students are from Poland.  Moreover a large number of international students from numerous countries all over the world help to create an atmosphere of increased cross-cultural communication and understanding.  The Viadrina consists of three faculties - the Faculty of Law, the Faculty of Business Administration and Economics, and the Faculty of Social and Cultural Sciences, but primarly business courses are offered in English.  Check out this welcome guide for information pertaining to foreign exchange students.

Location: Frankfurth (Oder) lies in the heart of Europe on the river Oder and directly on the border with Poland.  It is about one hour by train from the German capital Berlin.  The city has has approximately 64,500 residents, and outside an active social life in Frankfurt, students enjoy visits to the nearby lake Helensee and througout Europe.

ACADEMIC PROGRAM

Students may participate in this program for a semester or academic year.  Because of the semester schedule, it is recommended that semester students study at the Viadrina for the Spring semester.  For the semester or academic year program, students select from courses offered in the International Business program.  Its course work is taught in English. 

HOUSING

Most of the students live in modern student residence halls that can be found on both sides of the Oder river. Like the university facilities, the student residence halls are located throughout the town. Many of the residence halls are equipped with access to the internet. All have either modern one-room apartments or single rooms in two to five-room apartments.

Rooms in the residence halls are fully furnished. Dishes and bedding are not included; however, you can rent dishes from the Interstudis and bedding from the Studentenwerk. Washing machines and dryers are available for common use in the basement of all residences.

FINANCIAL AID and SCHOLARSHIPS

TAMIU financial aid may be applied to the costs of studying abroad.  Student interested in receiving financial aid should:

  • Direct financial aid inquiries to the Department of Financial Aid
  • Complete and submit the FAFSA by the appropriate deadline
  • Request a study abroad budget (will be provided one the student has completed his/her full study abroad application)

In addition to financial aid, qualified students may apply for the International Education Fee Scholarship, the Guadalupe and Lilia Martinez Scholarship, the DAAD and the Gilman Scholarship.

Students who apply to a semester Europa Universitat Viadrina program, will automatically receive the one-time Partner Scholarship in the amount of $500.
