Program Dates

Program

TAMIU’s Department of Language and Literature will offer a five-week study abroad program in Granada, Spain.  This six credit program consists of two upper division Spanish Literature courses examining the works of Federico Garcia Lorca and Rafael Alberti (Drama and Poetry) and a Special Topics course that will provide an in-depth look into the Spanish historical novel produced in Spain since the last quarter of the 20th century.

The program is directed by Dr. Agustin Martinez Samos, a native of Granada, Spain and Assistant Professor at the College of Arts and Sciences.  There will be complete immersion into the Spanish culture, and scheduled excursions to Madrid, Seville, Cordoba, and fieldtrips in Granada.  All on-site travel in Spain, housing and meal expenses (except Sunday meals) are included in the program fees.

Accommodation

Students will reside in in a Spanish residencia.  Students will be provided with three meals a day, except on Sundays, and once a week laundry service.  The residencia is a 5-10 minute walk away from the Center of Modern Languages.  Students are usually housed two to a room.

Program Cost

Program cost is $3,830, excluding the roundtrip airfare to Spain and and TAMIU tuition/fees

29 April Remaining program balance due of $ 2,130
Applications will not be processed unless they are completed and received by the stated deadline.

Application Process

1)  Submit the TAMIU study abroad application (summer) and pay the application fee here (mastercard/visa only - visit with OIE if you prefer to make a payment by check or cash) 

2)  Apply for any of the TAMIU study abroad scholarships for which you qualify

3)  The Financial Aid Budget Form is for your personal use.  OIE will provide an update of your educational expenses directly to the Office of Financial Aid

4)  Complete and turn in your Waiver and Liability Packet by 1 May 2011

Study Abroad Scholarships

TAMIU/OIE offers two scholarships for study abroad.  Qualified TAMIU students may complete their application and supporting documents and submit them to OIE together with their study abroad application.  You will be notified via email of your award and the award disbursement date.

Course Information

All students are required to enroll in:

SPAN 4330/SPAN 5346  Topics in Spanish Literature (3 SCH)

SPAN 4305/SPAN 5313  Seminar in Modern Spanish Literature (3 SCH)

Program Requirements

Students must have been approved by Dr. Martinez-Samos for acceptance into the program.

Refunds**

Withdrawal from a study abroad program must be made in writing to OIE.  The application fee of $200 is non-refundable, unless TAMIU cancels the program.  The application fee will be applied to your total program cost.  After this, TAMIU will refund recoverable tuition and costs as determined by OIE.  Refunds will be calculated from the date OIE is notified in writing of your intent to withdraw.  TAMIU is not responsible for indirect costs paid directly by students, including but not limited to passport fees, vaccinations, and transportation costs.

**TAMIU reserves the right to adjust program fees or cancel any program without prior notification; however, every effort will be made to provide information on cancellations in a timely manner.  In the event of cancellation, TAMIU will refund application fees and recoverable program fees.
