About the Office of Grant Resources
Mission
The Office of Grant Resources (OGR), a unit within the Office of Graduate Studies and Research, supports and provides services for faculty and staff in securing external funds from public and private agencies. Emphasis is placed on securing funds to achieve the University’s priorities. The office supports the contract and grant writing activities of the faculty and staff through all stages of the projec – from the initial planning through project completion.
Responsibilities & Services
The Office of Grant Resources is responsible for the authorization, approval, and submission of University proposals for external support for research and most sponsored projects. We provide assistance to those submitting sponsored project applications for funding from city, state and federal sources; however, for help with non-research funding from private sources, please contact Veronica Gonzalez,

The OGR staff:
- Identifies and disseminates information about potential funding sources for research and institutional programs;
- Assists in the development of proposals including budgets and regulatory requirements;
- Provides programmatic oversight of currently funded projects;
- Acts as the liason between the University and various state, federal and private agencies;
- Facilitates cooperation with interdisciplinary research and scholarly activities;
- Helps Principal Investigators abide by the Texas A&M University System policies; and
- Guides Principal Investigators through the TAMIU procedures relating to research and other sponsored projects.
Fiscal Services
The OGR works collaboratively with the Office of Grants and Contracts staff located in Killam Library, Room 159, to ensure proper budget preparation. The Office of Grants and Contracts staff is responsible for providing financial support services for grants and contracts to faculty and staff from the proposal preparation stage through the completion of the project. The Grants and Contracts support services include the following:
- Preliminary Budget Review – Examines the proposal budget prior to submission to review accuracy of budget; reviews positions and salaries in the proposal; reviews fringe benefit calculations; reviews indirect costs or overhead rates; verifies calculations; compares the current budget to prior year budgets if the grant application is up for renewal; and analyzes match requirements.
- Grant Approval Budget Review – Examines the budget following notification of funding to review staff procedures; reviews proposal for reasonableness and completeness of program expenditures and budget relation to program purpose, objectives, and governing documents; identifies potential issues, risks, or items that might have a fiscal or other impact on the university; and identifies legal or compliance issues; and conducts other reviews as necessary based on the funded program guidelines.
- Establishment of Grant Accounts – Following notification of funding, approval of the final budget, and acceptance of the grant by the University, establishes an account for the project.
- Monitoring of Grant Expenditures - Reviews purchases made to the project for compliance with grant proposal and allowable costs.
- Database of Budget Information – Establishes and maintains database of information related to the budget that will be used to monitor the project budget and reporting requirements.
- Project Fiscal Reports - Works with the Principal Investigator/Project Director to provide fiscal reports in accordance with project reporting requirements during and at project completion.
