Quality Education for Minorities (QEM) is a non-profit organization that works in conjunction with National Science Foundation (NSF) to set up workshops for professors from Hispanic-Serving Institutions (HSI).  Once your registration is accepted, QEM will set up and pay for all the workshop expenses except meals. Some of the upcoming workshops are aimed at helping those who are writing grants for the biology directorate, for the Faculty Early Career Development (CAREER) Program, for the Major Research Institutions (MRI) program. For more information, log on to the QEM homepage at: http://qemnetwork.qem.org/index.htm

Compliance Resources

Council for Opportunity in Education has a checklist (Pdf) of items that should be prepared in advance of a site visit.

The staff of the Office of Grant Resources uses a Guide to Programmatic Monitoring (Pdf) as a checklist when monitoring TAMIU grants and contracts to ensure that all documentation is in place.

The Principal Investigator (PI) or Project Director (PD) must complete and submit a Progress Report (Pdf) two times per year (April-October) to the appropriate Dean, Chair, or Vice President. In addition, one copy should be provided to the Office of Budget, Payroll, Grants and Contracts and a copy should be kept on file.

Export Controls

What are export controls?  Export controls are U.S. laws that regulate the distribution to foreign nationals and foreign countries of strategically important technology, services and information for reasons of foreign policy and national security.

Since some grant activities include exports, the Office of Grant Resources provides you with links to relevant information about export controls and how they affect academic research.

This is a 50-minute informational session on Export Control law that Warren DeLuca, Assistant General Counsel II and Jessica Scott, Assistant General Counsel II recorded in August of 2009. Both Mr. DeLuca and Ms. Scott work in the Office of Office of General Counsel of the Texas A&M University System. http://165.95.250.7/GP/main/000000973678000001215f9aa8f3aadf
