Students awarded TAMIU study abroad scholarships are required to complete study abroad service hours. Students can complete their hours by:
- Submit photos for the Guadalupe & Lilia Martinez photobook upon return from your study abroad program to earn 10 hours: 1 testimonial & a minimum of 10 photos (5 photos must include program participants).
- Post photos on social media (one hour per social media monthly)
- Aside from the monthly Instagram post, IE has an Instagram Challenge at the beginning of every month with a different hashtag. Post a picture using the corresponding hashtag to earn 1 hour (hashtags can be found on IE's Instagram page) & make sure to tag IE on the photo.
- Participate in Instagram Story Challenges by posting the IE story template on your story and tag @txamiuabroad to earn 1 hour.
- Participate in our social media campaign "Keep it REEL with TAMIU" by creating an Instagram Reel of your study abroad experience showcasing the cultural, educational, and fun aspects of your program. Students must use the hashtags #REELDustdevils and #txamiuabroad & tag IE's instagram in order to get awarded up to 5 hours. Note, only 1 REEL will be honored.
- Create Blog or Video. Hours awarded to be determined by IE.
- Participate in study abroad fairs & information booths Hours awarded to be determined by IE.
- Assist at International Engagement Events
- Help at the Office of International Engagement. Contact IE for options.
- Become an International Student Mentor. Students accepted to the program will fulfill all study abroad hour requirements.
A Study Abroad Service Hours Hold will be placed on student accounts until all required hours have been completed and submitted according to the IE process. This hold will prevent students from obtaining a transcript, registering for courses, and picking up diplomas. Under no circumstances will your hold be waived/removed post-graduation if hours are pending completion.
