Q1 .How does a student remain in status?

Ans:Students in F-1 Status must follow certain regulations to remain in the U.S. legally. Students must:
• Be enrolled full-time during the academic year (full-time enrollment is 12 semester credit hours for undergraduate)
• Not drop below full-time enrollment during the semester.
• Complete at least 12 credit hours. Notify the International Student Advisor of any change in enrollment status and/or change of address or phone number.

Q2 How can I get in touch with other students from my country?


Ans: Before coming to the US: If you would like to be put in touch with a student from your country who is studying at the University, please contact the Student Development Office at TAMIU. After arriving in TAMIU: International students who enroll at the University of TAMIU enjoy many opportunities for interacting with other students from abroad. International students have a special orientation when they arrive. There are also many international students groups so that students are provided with multiple opportunities to meet other international students both from your native country as well as from other nations.


Q3 Does TAMIU have quotas for international students or students from a specific country?


Ans: No. We welcome applicants from all states and nations and have no fixed limits on the number of international students or students from a particular country.

Q4 Does TAMIU offer scholarships and financial aid for international students?

Ans:TAMIU has a number of fellowship and scholarship programs for the international students.The students have to have a good academic track record to be eligible for it.Also, the student is required to maintain a minimum 3.0 GPA on a 4grade pointer to maintain the fellowship.For further information,click on the link below: http://www.tamiu.edu/affairs/financial/finaid.htm


Q5. How do I apply for a student visa?


Ans: To apply for a student (F-1) visa, you must usually appear at a US embassy or consulate in your home country. Students must present a valid passport, the Form I-20 A-B/ID, proof of English language proficiency, and verification of financial support for at least the first year of your stay. There will also be an application fee, which varies by country. Some countries may require additional documents to prove that you intend to be a student and plan to return to your home country at the end of your studies. Please check at the embassy or consulate for fee information and the documents required for application for a student visa.

Q6. What if I am denied a visa?


Ans: Please contact the Office of Admission as soon as possible if you are denied a student visa. Though we cannot guarantee that a visa will be issued to all of our students, it may be possible for us to provide further information that may assist with your visa application. You may also defer the course for the next semester.


Q7. Do I have to take pre-requisite courses when I enroll into a program in TAMIU?


Ans: The pre-requisite courses requirement varies from student to student. It depends on the academic background and the course that you are applying for. For further information, contact your advisor.


Q8. When should I arrive on campus?
Ans: You should arrive on campus about two weeks before the orientation starts. That gives you time to find housing, adjust to the climate, and prepare yourself for the academic year ahead. The on-campus jobs are very competitive and the students are recommended to register as early as possible to become eligible to apply.
