Circulation Department

What do we do?

The circulation department administers the circulation of library materials, media resources, course reserves, stack maintenance, and accounts receivable. In addition to specific areas of responsibility, Circulation Department staff is responsible for opening and closing the building, and monitoring adherence to house rules and the general safety and security of the building and collections.


Your Library Card and Your Library Account

For current TAMIU students, faculty, and staff, your TAMIU ID is also your library borrowing card. This card is issued by the TAMIU OneCard Center (Zaffirini Student Success Center, room 131), and must be presented by all TAMIU faculty, staff and students to check out library materials, study rooms. 


Borrowing & Renewing

TAMIU students, faculty and staff can borrow items from Killam Library with their TAMIU ID card. Click here to find loan periods. TAMIU students, faculty, and staff can use Interlibrary Loan to request delivery of articles and books supplied by other libraries.

Library materials can be renewed online through TAMIU WorldCat Discovery using your campus NetID to sign in to your library account. All materials may also be renewed in person at the Circulation Desk or by phone at 956-326-2111.


Fines, Overdues & Lost Materials

  • For the purpose of collection maintenance, all library materials will automatically become due at the end of each academic semester except for materials charged out to TAMIU faculty members and PhD candidates.
  • Overdue fines are $0.25 per day for books and CDs, up to a maximum of $10. Media items (DVDs, VHS, and computer programs) are $1 per day overdue, up to a maximum of $10. Overdue recall items accrue by $1.00 per day, per item.
  • Overdue recall items accrue by $1.00 per day, per item.
  • The replacement fee for lost books and CDs will be $80 per item plus a $10 processing fee. The replacement fee for DVDs, VHS, and computer programs will be $80 per item plus a $10 processing fee. Material lost from the Juvenile Collection will be $15 per item plus the $10 processing fee. Replacement fees are refundable if the item is returned within 12 months. Overdue fines will be waived in favor of replacement fees.

Holds/Recalls

Users who need material that is currently charged out can place a hold or recall against the item. A recall is to be used in cases where the item will not be returned in a reasonable amount of time (2-3 weeks).

Follow these instructions to place Holds/Recalls:
1. Search for the item in TAMIU WorldCat Discovery .
2. Click on the "Place Hold" or "Recall" button.
3. You will be taken to the account login screen.
4. Type in your campus NetID and password.
5. Select options (if needed) and click on "Submit".

Your Hold/Recall has been placed. You will be notified when your item is ready for pickup.
