What is interlibrary loan?

Interlibrary loan (ILL) is a service that helps you obtain materials that are unavailable in the Killam Library from other libraries across the globe.

Who may use interlibrary loan service?

Interlibrary loan service is available to Texas A&M International University faculty, staff and currently enrolled students both local and distant. Patrons must use their TAMIU credentials to create an account. Items can be picked up with a valid TAMIU ID.

Do I have to pay for ILL services?

There is no charge to fill ILL requests for materials.

How do I make a request?

All ILL requests must be submitted online using ILLiad. Before you submit a request, please check WorldCat Discovery to see that the item is not available in our library.

Can I request textbooks?

**Students may NOT request textbooks or other texts that are currently being sold in the TAMIU bookstore. All such requests will be canceled by ILL staff. The influx of these requests places an undue burden on our staff as well as our partner lending institutions/libraries.**

How long does it take?

The "average" request takes about a week, but your request may take more or less time depending on how long it takes to find a lender to send it to us, what the paperwork processing speed is in the lender's office, how quickly the mail is moving, and other factors.

How long will I have ILL material for?

Loan periods for Interlibrary Loan materials are determined by the lending library. The borrower may request a renewal before the due date by placing a renewal request online through his/her ILLiad Account. No request for renewal may be made after the original due date has passed. You will see the new date reflected at the very top of the page.

Where do I pick up and return ILL materials?

Interlibrary loan materials can be picked up at the Circulation Desk. Articles will be delivered electronically to your TAMIU email.

Please return materials to the Circulation Desk when you are finished using them. The ILL attachments or cover sheets should still be attached to the materials. Photocopies of articles do not need to be returned.

What if I forget my password?

In the event that you forget your password, please contact the Interlibrary Loan Office at 956-326-2078.

We will then be able to reset your password, allowing you access to ILLiad. Please change your password once you logon to ILLiad.

Can someone else pick up my materials?

Yes. Faculty may designate an authorized user to pick up materials. In your ILLiad account, under "Tools", select "Change User Information". There is a box to add users. The designated user must use their valid TAMIU ID. This service is for Faculty ONLY.

Will I be contacted when my items arrive?

Yes. You will receive an email when your items are ready to pick up at the Circulation Desk. If you requested articles, the email will contain instructions on how to retrieve them electronically.
