“140 Something” TAMIU Art Exhibit
Opens Thursday, Oct. 23

Texas A&M International University’s Center for the Fine and Performing Arts (CFPA) invites local and area residents to attend the new fall exhibit “140 Something” at TAMIU’s CFPA Gallery starting Thursday, Oct. 23 – Thursday, Dec. 4. A reception will be held Thursday, Oct. 23 from 5 to 8 p.m.

The reception is free and open to the public.

The exhibit presents artwork by Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi (TAMU-CC) graduate art students. It will include paintings from the Nexus Art Collective as well as artwork from graduate students in photography, ceramics, sculpture and printmaking.

The Nexus Art Collective is a group of 11 artists whose basic philosophy is to create and exhibit fine art. They combine resources to assist each other as emerging artists participating in group shows.

The independent artist group consists of up-and-coming artists who have collaborated as local graduate students at TAMU-CC’s art department. The group and their works encompass an impressive array of styles and themes in painting through various mediums.

Two of the participating graduate students, Bernardo Díaz and Reuben Njaa, are former TAMIU art majors.

Other featured artists include Casey Cooper, Clarita Fajutag, Dan Davis, Daryl Hause Tanner, David L. Phillips, David Longnecker II, Eva Cantwell, Grace Barraza-Vega, Jeanine McCain, Kyle A. Chaput, Luis Corpus, Mary Terry, Shawna Leahey, Sheila Gritte, Travis Cook and Kris Jorgensen.

For more information, please contact Alma Haertlein, TAMIU assistant professor of studio art, at 326.3041 or e-mail almah@tamiu.edu

Gallery hours are Monday – Thursday, 12 – 5 p.m. or by appointment.
