TAMIU Wellness Fair Set Nov. 3 at Student Center

TAMIU and Health Coalition Set
Wellness Fair Thursday, November 3

A chance to get a quick health check before the holiday season begins in earnest will be the focus of Texas A&M International University and Laredo Health Coalition’s Wellness Fair at the Student Center Thursday, Nov. 3 from 12:30 – 4 p.m.

Members of the University community and the community at large are welcome to attend.  There is no charge to participate.

Rose Saldivar, TAMIU assistant professor of nursing and one of the event organizers and sponsors, said the Wellness Fair’s timing is important.

“Before we realize it, the holidays are upon us and as is the tendency  to eat rich foods and ease off our exercise program.  This Wellness Fair is designed to provide everyone with a quick snaphot of your current health and to help encourage healthy eating, fun and fitness,” Saldivar said.

Participants in the Wellness Fair will be able to participate in a number of screenings and students will be eligible for special prizes.

Nine different screenings will be available including cholesterol, blood sugar, blood pressure, body mass index, pulmonary function and HIV (AIDS) Info and screen.

Special booths will offer information on sexually transmitted diseases, osteoporosis, skin cancer, living wills, protein supplements and steroids, breast and testicular cancer and alcohol awareness.

In addition, a representative from “Walk Across Texas,” a fun fitness program hosted by TAMIU Student Health Services, will be on hand to answer questions about walking to health.
